Epilepsy Awareness (3hrs)
This course is will
provide an insight into caring for a person with Epilepsy. It is an introductory course and so
is open to all. The course is ideal for Parents, family members and Carers.

Epilepsy
Emergency Care and Rectal Diazepam / Buccal Midazolam Administration (6hr)
This course provides detailed information on Epilepsy Emergency Care and the administration of
Rectal Diazepam. The course meets the requirements of the Joint Epilepsy Council standards (2004 & 2005).
Topics covered include: Epilepsy Facts, Basic Life Support, Causes of Epilepsy,
Seizure Classification, Partial Seizures, Generalised Seizures, Seizure Management, Triggers & Precipitants, Anti-Epileptic
Medications (AED's), Use of Rectal Diazepam & Buccal Midazolam, Contra-Indications / Cautions, Procedure for Administration
and Ethical Issues. Epilepsy Facts, Causes of Epilepsy, Seizure Classification, Partial Seizures, Generalised Seizures, Seizure
Management, Triggers & Precipitants, Anti-Epileptic Medications (AED's), Use of Rectal Diazepam & Buccal Midazolam,
Contra-Indications / Cautions, Procedure for Administration and Ethical Issues.
During the course there will be practical sessions on The Recovery Position, Resuscitation, Rectal Diazepam &
Buccal Midazolam administration.
